Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park, where land and sea meet on Maine’s rugged coastline, combines some truly spectacular hiking with atmospheric towns and villages. Rocky cliffs and mountains rise abruptly from the sea to create a unique landscape found rarely along America’s eastern seaboard.

Our hikes lead us to every corner of Mount Desert Island. For the adventurous there are trails along exposed mountain ridges that lead through carpets of blueberries to rocky peaks. Other paths wind their way along the shore line to sandy beaches, hug the many lake shores, or follow the more gentle ‘carriage paths’ that John D. Rockefeller Jr. constructed in the 20’s. Added attractions such as ‘tea and popovers’ at the famous Jordan Pond House are possible only in this particular area where wilderness and history are so interwoven.

Our first two nights begin overlooking the picturesque blue waters of Northeast Harbor, at the Asticou Inn, a classic turn of the century resort.

Our last two nights find us at The Holbrook House in the heart of Bar Harbor’s historic corridor, a bustling coastal town full of down-east charm.

Dining on this trip takes advantage of the many fine restaurants in the area and includes a lobster feast one night..
