Our guides are exceptional people.
A forester, a teacher, a storyteller, a naturalist, a wilderness therapy
guide and a Bikram yoga teacher, the list goes on…. Talented well
traveled men and women who share one common interest, a passion for sharing
their love of the natural world.
So whether their working behind the scenes to ensure your vacation enfolds
seamlessly, or on the trails discussing flora, fauna, geology or history
of the area, you can count on returning home refreshed, relaxed and with
a new perspective of the world.
By putting their best foot forward a great hiking holiday becomes a
memorable one when led by guides like ours.
P.S. You won't believe the picnic lunches these guides pull out of
their packs!
Brenda
Donnelly has been guiding with us for 19 years and has led
hikes to almost all of our destinations. She has made many lasting
friendships with hikers and her love of the outdoor world is quite
infectious. Many of you have also enjoyed her musical talents
when she and her musician friends serenade our guests. She makes
her home in New Hampshire's White Mountains. |
Dana Steele, now in his 17th year with us.
In the past, Dana has taught school, been a head tennis professional
and spent many years as a forester, which has served him very well
as an outdoor guide. He too has guided trips to most of our destinations.
Dana's dry New England wit is always a welcome addition to our trips. |
Angie
Watson was born Angela Capitani in Bologna, Italy and was
raised in the hills of Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. She has lived
in the United States for 18 years and is involved in the health
field as a personal trainer and aerobics instructor in Vero Beach,
Florida. |
Tim Loveridge divides
his time between guiding our trips (with a never-failing sense
of humor!) and building his own home in western Maine. Before
joining us, he worked for the Forest Service and The Appalachian
Mountain Club, where he managed sections of the Appalachian Trail.
This is Tim's 11th year with New England Hiking Holidays. Tim
leads tours in New England , Virginia and in the Western states. |
Nichol
Ernst
After graduating Brown in 2002, Nichol Ernst worked as a
wilderness therapy guide and team leader for struggling
teenagers in the mountains of New England. A competitive
sailor, he has also led summer canoe trips in Northern
Manitoba and Ontario. Nichol has been a great addition to our
family of guides. |
Joan

programs throughout New England, that range from rock and ice climbing,
snow shoeing and skiing to guided hiking and cultural history programs.
Joan and her husband make their home in Brownfield, Maine. |
Bob Stoneley spent
much of his life as an educator, many of those as a headmaster
at an English school for troubled teens. So, as he always reminds
us, looking after our hikers in no problem at all! Bob has led
our hikes in England and Scotland for over 13 years.

edge energy work. A native Floridian, she has guided all over
the United States and Western Canada but now lives in Truckee,

After
being a full time guide for 15 years, Jamie Riel has returned
to teaching in a small two room schoolhouse. We can't however
keep him completely off the trails, and he'll be joining hikers
on several of our western trips, including the Olympic Peninsula
and South Dakota. Jamie presently lives with his wife Caren in
the beautiful hills of western Maine.
When not guiding hiking trips in the summer, Caren Hutchinson
spends much of her time with young children as a Speech Language
Pathologist. Her hobbies and passions include sculpting, gardening,
hiking (of course), kayaking and homesteading with her husband Jamie.
Caren guides our Olympic Peninsula trips in July. |
Clare
Grabher started the hiking company back in 1985. Born in England,
Clare began hiking in exotic places around the world in her spare
time, while competing on the professional tennis circuit. She
now divides her time between leading many of the European hikes
and running the North Conway, NH - based office. She and husband
Kurt have an 15 year old daughter, Krista (who also likes to hike!) |
Maria
Hamm lives with her husband and son in the lovely town of
Appenzell, Switzerland. We met Maria when she was running the
hotel that we visit in Appenzell and over the years we became
good friends. Maria now spends her time running tours for the
local tourist office and her knowledge of the area and its customs
are a wonderful addition to our trips in the Alps. |
Raetha Stoddard lives in the foothills of
the White Mountains of New Hampshire with her twin teenage daughters.
When she's not promoting her Bluegrass festivals or working on
the family's apple farm she spends her time guiding with us in
northern New England. |
Larry Cleair lives
near the Mississippi River in Gordonville, Missouri, where he
teaches high school math and is the football coach. Many of his
summers were spent hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and
he was the natural choice to guide our trips to this scenic part
of the United States. His gentle, caring attitude to guiding is
very apparent on all the trips he runs. |
Graham

his background also includes intensive bike touring, driving
horse drawn sleighs and studying wild edibles. He keeps busy now
restoring an old house and raising a family. |

Kingdom of Vermont. |
Michael O'Connor is
a native Irishman who has been leading our tours to Ireland for
the last 10 years and in the off-season when not guiding hiking
tours, teaches at a college in the lovely town of Tralee in southwestern
Ireland. His knowledge of both the flora and fauna and history
of Ireland as well as the intricacies of Irish pub life, is vital
to the success of our Irish trips! |

in the US and Canada. Originally from Cleveland, OH she spent
