| New Mexico Land of Enchantment New Mexico.. a land of incredible natural beauty where Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo-American cultures blend together. It is evident in the art, the food, the architecture and the language. Our six day journey begins in Taos at the San Geronimo Lodge. This is a perfect base from which to discover the art, food and history of Taos Pueblo, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in America. Hikes nearby take us by switchback trail down into the mighty Rio Grande Gorge and along the scenic pathways of the Carson National Forest. On route to Santa Fe we spend one night in the historic northern New Mexico village of Chimayo. Casa Escondida ("the hidden house") is an intimate inn built in the Spanish Colonial adobe style and the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant is mentioned in every guidebook. The inn offers easy access to the wonders of Bandelier National Monument with its wonderfully preserved ruins of the prehistoric southwestern pueblo civilization. Our hikes here lead us through canyons past two cascading waterfalls into the heart of the ruins. Moving on, we arrive in Santa Fe and the southwestern elegance of the Inn on the Alameda. Within its adobe walls the inn offers a secluded setting with flower filled courtyards just minutes from Santa Fe's historic plaza and gallery filled Canyon Road and a multitude of fine dining experiences. Our final day finds us meandering among the strange rock formations of Tent Rocks National Monument.
Our hike begins with dinner on Saturday and ends after hiking and lunch on Friday.
