Shenandoah National Park & The Blue Ridge Parkway

Pause for a moment and take in the surroundings - the beautiful spring flowering of the dogwoods and rhododendrons or the warm fall colors of the broad leaved oak and hickory trees, trickling streams, singing birds and rustling leaves. Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia offer endless natural beauty!

Our journey begins in the historic town of Staunton, the oldest city in the Shenandoah Valley. Lodging is at the Frederick House a 19th century inn dating back to 1809.

Nearby hiking and walking takes us to wonderful trails just off the Skyline Drive. Hikes to the summit of Turk or Blackrock Mountain reward us with expansive views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Below ridgeline are gentler trails through deep hollows and to hidden waterfalls. In springtime the cascades are accented by azalea and rhododendron blooms and in autumn, tulip and maple trees color our path.

Our last three nights are spent enjoying the quiet beauty of The Sugar Tree Inn set on twenty-eight wooded acres with a forty mile view.

The Sugar Tree Inn serves as our base for a visit to nearby Crabtree Falls, the highest cascade of water east of the Mississippi River! The Mount Pleasant Scenic Area with its 4000’ high peaks rewards hikers and walkers with views of both the Shenandoah Valley and Virginia Piedmont.
